After Omar sets pre-condition to end verbal spat, PDP suspends political activities
12/11/2023 11:20:42 PM

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 11: A day after National Conference vice-president Omar Abdullah said that Peoples Democratic Party should stop attacking his party then NC would also refrain, PDP on Monday announced to suspend its political activities for one week. Pertinently, Omar Abdullah while talking to reporters had said, “It’s unfortunate that the PDP president speaks in one language when she addresses the public but she speaks in another tone behind closed doors.”
He said, “My father (Dr Farooq Abdullah) had called her a few days before to tell her that verbal spat between NC and PDP should end, but she said that it was started by the NC leaders. I want to remind the PDP leaders that last year when PDP held its foundation day, its leaders attacked NC and delivered venomous speeches against us.” Omar said, “I never target PDP during my speeches but I always remind them that had they accepted our friendship offer in 2015, we would not have been in a mess today. If you call this attack, what can I say?”
The NC vice-president said that PDP should stop attacking his party, and then NC leaders too would refrain. “But if they keep on hitting out at us we will retaliate,” he added.
Meanwhile, PDP on Monday announced that the party has decided to suspend its political activities for one week. Though it cited the Supreme Court’s decision to uphold Centre’s move to abrogate Article 370 as a reason, however, observers are of the opinion that PDP wants to see how NC reacts and would the party leaders abide by Omar Abdullah’s direction to “refrain from targeting the PDP.”
“Party president Mehbooba Mufti was scheduled to address various workers conventions as part of her ongoing public outreach programme and many such conventions were scheduled over the next few days. Many other political activities were also scheduled by the party. But in order to stand in solidarity with our people at this crucial juncture in the wake of the Supreme Court ‘s verdict on the issue of Article 370, we have decided to cancel all our political activities for next one week,” a PDP spokesman said in a statement.
