‘Apni Party, PC bonhomie can make things difficult for NC, PDP’

Early Times Report

Jammu, Dec 1: Last week president of the Apni Party Altaf Bukhari met the Peoples Conference chairman Sajad Lone at an disclosed location in Srinagar apparently to discuss the emerging political situation in Jammu and Kashmir.
According to the media reports both the leaders met at an undisclosed location in Srinagar without aides and security. It was a one on one meeting.
An analyst while talking to Early Times said, “The meeting is a significant one as both the parties are not a part of the I.N.D.I.A. alliance (a conglomerate of opposition national parties) which includes National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) also.”
He said that there is a possibility of the Apni Party and the Peoples Conference agreeing on a seat sharing agreement for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections as both the parties want to make their presence felt. “If PC and Apni Party enter into an alliance they can make things difficult for NC and PDP,” the analyst added.
The media reports claimed that both the leaders during the meeting discussed the critical necessity of cleansing Kashmiri politics. “They intend to take other leaders on board and expose politicians who exhibit inconsistent behaviors. They felt that leaders who indulge in doublespeak need to be exposed.”
An observer said, “Peoples Conference and Apni Party enjoy support only in a few pockets and it looks difficult that they would spring any surprise or cause any major upset.”
He said, “NC and PDP leaders leave no opportunity to propagate that PC and Apni Party are B-teams of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) but if these parties join hands there is every possibility about these parties cutting the votes of NC and PDP. It would make things a bit difficult for both these parties.”
The observer claimed that if PC and Apni Party join hands the “BJP could be a direct beneficiary.”
