NEW DELHI, Feb 3: The Sahitya Akademi, in collaboration with the JK Academy of Arts, Culture, and Languages in Jammu, recently organized a symposium focusing on "Translation as a Form of Literature," with a special emphasis on translations involving Dogri language. The symposium, presided over by noted Dogri writer and Sahitya Akademi awardee, Darshan Darshi, brought together scholars, writers, and enthusiasts to explore the nuances of translation within the Dogri literary context.
Chief guest Bharat Singh Manhas, Secretary of JK Academy, expressed support for the symposium's mission and announced assistance for the promotion of Dogri language, culture, and literature. Dr. Gian Singh, an eminent scholar and writer, delivered the keynote address, shedding light on the significance of translation in preserving and enriching the cultural and literary diversity.
The symposium comprised two sessions with renowned scholars of Dogri literature presenting their papers. Prakash Premi, Nirmal Vinod, and Jagdeep Dubey shared their insights during these sessions. The first session was presided over by Padmshree Jitender Udhampuri, while Prof Archana Kesar, an eminent scholar, presided over the second session.
Mohan Singh, the convener of the Dogri Advisory Board at Sahitya Akademi, highlighted the various schemes launched by Sahitya Akademi to promote different languages and literature across the country, including Dogri. Darshan Darshi, in his presidential address, lauded the efforts of Dogri writers and scholars and expressed optimism for a bright future.
