JAMMU, Apr 4: Govt. College for Women Bhagwati Nagar organized a Seminar on "Cyber Crime" under the banner of Cyber Jagrookta, an initiative taken by the Ministry of Home Affairs to combat cybercrime in our nation. Capt. Anjana Sharma, Associate Professor and Head Department of Computer Sciences, GDC Khour was the resource person for the occasion.
The event was inaugurated by the Principal of the college Dr. Meeru Abrol, who in her address enlightened the students to participate in such seminars so that they can make themselves aware about the cyber-crime and the ways to control it. She emphasized on importance of such awareness seminars on cyber security so as to stop the menace from spreading in society.
Capt. Anjana Sharma, in her lecture, made the students aware about various types of cybercrime like Phishing, Identity theft, Cyber Stalking, Cyber Obscenity etc. She deliberated in detail about the risk management and security controls while working on the internet, which is widely used by people in their day to day lives. She also talked about social media vulnerability, smartphone risks and online transaction risks. The resource person further highlighted the fact that the stakeholders around the world should come together to make the internet a safer & better place especially for children & young people.
The resource person also deliberated on the various issues and challenges that a person can face while working on internet. The problems of Hacking, Indentity Theft, Pornography, Spamming, Illegal downloading were discussed in detail during the seminar. After the detailed presentation the students of the college raised number of queries which were thoroughly answered by the resource person. The interactive session was very participative in nature in which faculty also asked their questions pertaining to cyber security. The programme was organized by Prof. Nisha Bhagat who also raised concerns about the issues like cyber bullying, digital identity & other social networking problems which need to be dealt with by creating necessary awareness online issues and current concerns.
