Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 13: Former Deputy Chief Minister and senior BJP leader, Kavinder Gupta, highlighted the significant achievements of the Modi Government in addressing the grievances of the Gorkha community during a meeting held at Gorakh Nagar. Gupta underscored the government's commitment to ensuring justice and welfare for every neglected segment of society, particularly emphasizing the strides made following the revocation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir. The meeting, organized by BJP OBC Morcha at Gorkhanagar, Jammu, served as a platform to discuss the transformative measures initiated by the Modi administration.
Gupta outlined how the Gorkha community, historically deprived of residency rights, which rendered them ineligible for government jobs and voting rights under previous Congress-NC governments for 75 years, has now been granted residency status and reservation under the OBC category. He assured the Gorkha community that the Modi Government would continue its efforts to regularize Gorkha colonies in accordance with prevailing regulations, offering further relief to the community.
Sunil Prajapati, President of BJP OBC Morcha, J&K UT, echoed Gupta's sentiments, commending the Modi Government for its inclusive approach towards historically neglected sections of society. Prajapati highlighted the government's commitment to the principle of "Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas," citing the recent grant of OBC reservation to various backward communities, including the Gorkhas, Jat Community, Saini Community, and West Pakistani Refugees, among others. He emphasized the significance of OBC representation in municipal and panchayat elections, ensuring the participation of Gorkha representatives under OBC reservation.
Karuna Chhettri, President of Gorkha Samaj, expressed gratitude to the Modi Government for granting residency rights to the Gorkha community in Jammu and Kashmir, a privilege long denied by previous governments under Article 35A. Chhettri voiced hope for the regularization of Gorkha colonies, a step impeded by Article 35A and the indifferent attitude of past NC-Congress governments in J&K.
The event witnessed the presence of several prominent leaders and party workers, including Vikram Randhawa (Former MLC), Rekha Mahajan (District President Jammu South), Anu Radha Charak (Vice President), Rajeev Charak (Senior BJP Leader), Braham Jyot Satti (Prabhari OBC Morcha), Lucky Puri (Mandal President), Shardha Devi (Former Corporator), Anil Balgotra (Secretary OBC Morcha), Vivek Patyal, Sunny Sangotra, Subash Chander, Ajay Kumar, and others, highlighting the collective support for the initiatives aimed at uplifting the Gorkha community.
