Rahul Gandhi may bring fresh J&K representation in AICC reshuffle; several names making rounds

Early Times Report

New Delhi, Sept 11: A possible reshuffle of the All India Congress Committee (AICC) secretaries is reportedly being discussed within the Congress leadership in New Delhi, with renewed focus on strengthening the representation of Jammu & Kashmir in the party’s central organisational structure.
The discussion assumes significance following the appointment of Neeraj Kundan and Shahnawaz Chowdhary as District Congress Presidents in Jammu Rural and Poonch respectively. Both leaders had earlier served as AICC Secretaries and were subsequently moved back to their respective home regions to take up organisational responsibilities at the district level.
With their shifting from the AICC to district-level responsibilities, the representation of Jammu & Kashmir among the party’s AICC Secretaries has reportedly become a matter of discussion within the Congress organisation.
According to sources, the Congress high command is now considering fresh names from Jammu & Kashmir for possible induction into the AICC secretariat. The final decision, however, is expected to be taken by the party’s central leadership after considering organisational requirements, regional representation and the political balance within the Union Territory.
Feroz Khan, Abid Kashmiri among names doing the rounds
Among the names being discussed, Feroz Khan is reportedly being considered for an important organisational responsibility at the AICC level. Sources claim that his name has been recommended by AICC General Secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir.
Another name being discussed is Abid Ahmed Bhat, popularly known as Abid Kashmiri. According to sources, his name is being backed by Sayeed Naseer Hussain, AICC In-charge of Jammu & Kashmir.
Both names are currently being discussed in organisational circles, although there has been no official announcement from the Congress leadership regarding their appointment.
Pranav Sagotra may also be considered
There is also speculation around Pranav Sagotra from Jammu. Party sources suggest that his name could come into consideration if the Congress leadership decides to ensure representation from the Jammu Hindu community while making the new appointments.
The possible inclusion of a leader from Jammu alongside representation from other regions could be part of an effort to maintain a broader regional and social balance in the party’s organisational structure.
Final decision rests with the Congress high command
The reported reshuffle comes at a time when the Congress is seeking to strengthen its organisational structure across Jammu & Kashmir. The party’s central leadership is expected to assess several factors, including organisational performance, regional representation, grassroots connect and the requirements of the ongoing organisational restructuring.
While several names are currently circulating in Congress circles, no appointment can be treated as final until an official decision is announced by the AICC.
The coming days are therefore likely to be important for Jammu & Kashmir Congress, as the party leadership in New Delhi is expected to take a final call on whether new AICC Secretaries will be appointed from the Union Territory—and, if so, which leaders will receive the responsibility.
For now, Feroz Khan, Abid Ahmed Bhat (Abid Kashmiri) and Pranav Sagotra are among the names being discussed, but the final choice remains with the Congress high command and ultimately with the party leadership headed by Rahul Gandhi and the senior AICC leadership.
