Gdc Udhampur observes two day awareness programme on “No-Tobacco Day”

Udhampur, June 2: NCC Cadets, 2 J&K Girls Battalion and 2 J&KBoys Battalion, of GDC Udhampur observed World No-Tobacco Day under the flagship programme of “No-Tobacco Day”, a series of events and activities were conducted. The whole programme was organized under the able guidance of the Principal, Prof.(Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta, and the directions of Col. Munish Jasrotia commanding officer 2 JK girls bn and Col Rajesh Jasrotia commanding officer 2 J&K boys bn.
On 31 May 2024, 23 SW cadets and 25 SD cadets took part in a Quiz competition on Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, organized by the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment government of India. On 01st of June 2024, 50 NCC including 25 SW cadets and 25 SD cadets Cadets of the college performed Nukkad Natak at Goal Market in Udhampur thereby sensitizing near about 300 shopkeepers and the general masses of Udhampur about the harmful effects of tobacco and its consumption. After the natak, the cadets also conducted a rally by shouting slogans against the ill effects of tobacco consumption and urged and encouraged the onlookers and the citizens to choose a healthy lifestyle. Following the rally, the college also organized a seminar on the theme “Say No To Tobacco” wherein two SW cadets namely Cadet Sneha and Cadet Eesha and Two SD cadets namely Cadet Kavya and Cadet Arnav Mahajan expressed their views on the harmful and deadly repercussions of tobacco consumption. Seven SW cadets and two SD cadets took part in poster poster-making competition and artistically portrayed the dangerous effects of tobacco use and how to refrain from it. The whole programme culminated with the regular NCC Class on the topic “Disaster Management” conducted by Captain (Prof) Shivani Sharma, ANO 2 J&K girls bn.
The Principal of the college, Prof.(Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta in his message, lauded the cadets for their dedication in making the public aware of the ill effects of tobacco consumption. He further advised the cadets to keep themselves away from tobacco and various harmful drugs and also sensitize their near and dear ones. Dr. Gupta further added that “Your health is your wealth, don’t let tobacco steal it.” “Choose life, not tobacco.” “Every cigarette you don’t smoke is a step towards a healthier you.” “Say no to tobacco and yes to life.”
Principal, Prof.(Dr.) Romesh Kumar Gupta also appreciated the efforts of Prof (Capt) Shivani Sharma, ANO 2 J&K girls bn, and Prof Vijay Kumar, ANO 2 J&K boys bn for their commitment and consistent efforts to nurture and mould the cadets towards responsible citizens of the nation.
