Early Times Report

Ganderbal, June 2: Dr. Syed Darakhshan Andrabi, Chairperson of the Jammu and Kashmir Waqf Board, attended the Annual Urs of Peer Akbar Dhah Naqshbandi (RA) at Wali War in Ganderbal. This marks a significant moment for the community, celebrating the return of Urs festivities after decades of bans.
During her visit, Dr. Andrabi paid obeisance at the revered shrine, praying for the peace and prosperity of the country. She interacted with a wide cross-section of the local population and engaged with various public delegations, reflecting her commitment to fostering community ties.
In her address to a large public gathering, Dr. Andrabi expressed her delight at the improved law and order situation in Kashmir since 2019, which has paved the way for the revival of Sufism in the region. “For decades, annual Urs celebrations at Sufi shrines were barred and banned by separatists and their preachers. J&K was deprived of this tradition of spirituality for years. We are fortunate to witness the return of peaceful days where we can freely celebrate our spiritual traditions,” said Dr. Andrabi.
Highlighting the importance of Sufi teachings, Dr. Andrabi emphasized the need to preserve the shrines and propagate their inclusive teachings to ensure continuous peace in Jammu and Kashmir. “Our Sufis are our pride, and we must collectively preserve their shrines and propagate their teachings to illuminate our lives with their spiritual excellence,” she said.
Dr. Andrabi also called for infrastructural development at the Wali War shrine, urging the community to work together to create the desired facilities for devotees. “This shrine needs an infrastructural boost, and together we can create the necessary facilities here,” she added.
The event marked a joyous occasion, reflecting the community’s devotion and the positive changes in the region, allowing the revival of cherished spiritual traditions.
