DEERS celebrates World Environment Day

JAMMU, June 3: As a prelude to WORLD Environment Day-2024, Department of Ecology Environment & Remote Sensing, Jammu along with DEERS-EIACP J&K Hub organized series of events across different schools and colleges in Jammu starting from 25th May to 4th June.
In the series of events organized, on 25th a webinar was organized where experts from University of Kashmir and central University, Jammu delivered the talk on the theme of world Environment day -Land restoration, Desertification and drought resilience.
On 27th an extempore competition was held at GGHSS, Rehari and sketching competition at Department of Botany, University of Jammu. A quiz competition and slogan writing competition was organized on 28th May at Dogra High School. On the 29th, a model making competition was held at GGHSS, Qasaban where students showcased their creativity and understanding of environmental issues through meticulously crafted models. The world no tobacco day was celebrated on 31st at GBHS, Sarwal where the message about the dangerous effect of Tobacco was shared. A painting competition was organized on 31st May at MAM College where nearly 40 students participated showcasing their artistic talents and conveying powerful messages about environmental conservation.
Rangoli competition using waste/ recycled material at GWC, Gandhinagar was organized on 3rd may. A total of 40 students participated in the competition. The creative minds of the participants presented their opinions using innovative materials showcasing their artistic thoughts on the theme of World Environment Day. Apart from this, virtual competitions were held like online photography and called for innovative ideas on the World environment day theme.
The winners of all the events will be felicitated on the culmination event on 5th June, The World Environment day is celebrated at Department of Botany, University of Jammu. The chief Guest will be Vasu Yadav, PCCF/Chairman.
