GCW Bhagwati Nagar celebrates Gandhi Jayanti

JAMMU, Sept 25: The Department of Environmental Sciences and Eco Club 'Tawishi', in collaboration with the NSS unit 'Veerangana' of GCW Bhagwati Nagar, organized a series of activities to commemorate Gandhi Jayanti 2024. Held under the patronage of the college's Principal, Dr. Meeru Abrol, the events focused on fostering creativity, critical thinking, and the values of truth and non-violence among students.
On 25th September, a Slogan Writing Competition took place with the theme of Truth and Non-Violence, drawing enthusiastic participation. Around 15 students showcased their creativity and commitment to promoting these essential principles. The competition, judged by Prof. Nisha Bhagat and Prof. Gagan Jyoti, saw Gurleen Kour of B.Com Semester 5th emerge as the winner for her impactful slogan, while Jaspreet Kour and Vanshika Rajput secured second and third positions, respectively.
A Bhajan Singing Competition was also organized, where students presented melodious renditions of bhajans reflecting Mahatma Gandhi's teachings of peace, non-violence, and truth. The winning team consisted of Jaspreet Kour, Amandeep Kour, and Jaspreet Kour of Semester 5th, captivating the audience with their soulful performances.
Additionally, a Seminar on 'Gandhiji's Vision for a Sustainable Future' was held, where ten students expressed their thoughts on Gandhi's ideals for a better world. The event was judged by Dr. Preeti Salathia and Dr. Kamal Deep Singh, with Sabhyata Verma securing first place, followed by Ragini Kohli in second and Bhumi Khajuria in third.
Principal Dr. Meeru Abrol praised the students for their passion and creativity, noting that their slogans and presentations reflected a profound understanding of the importance of truth and non-violence in today's society. She added that these events not only encouraged artistic expression but also emphasized the vital role of these principles in fostering peace and harmony.
The event was successfully organized by Dr. Mosmi Raina, Convenor of the Eco Club.
