"Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Pharmacy" celebrates World Pharmacists Day

JAMMU, Sept 25: Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Pharmacy a beacon of pharmacy education and values celebrated World Pharmacist Day to commemorate the birth anniversary of Professor Mahadeva Lal Schroff and to recognize his contribution in establishing pharmacy education in India, an occasion to recognize the invaluable contributions of pharmacists to healthcare and patient well-being. This year, the theme is "Pharmacists Meeting Global Health Needs," highlighting the crucial role pharmacists play in promoting and supporting this life-saving practice. The event was attended by students, faculty, healthcare professionals, and local dignitaries, aiming to bring attention to the vital role of pharmacists in global healthcare systems and the increasing responsibilities they shoulder in meeting emerging health challenges.
The event was inaugurated by Dr. Heena Jamwal (Director RG institute of pharmacy), along with Mr. Gourav Nanda (Principal) & Dr. Shalumol Jose (HOD), Ms. Seema were among the eminent persons present along with staff and students.
Dr. Heena Jamwal (Director) while addressing students said that Prof. M.L. Schroff is recognized as the Father of Pharmacy Education in India. In her keynote speech, she emphasized how pharmacists are pivotal in ensuring access to safe and effective healthcare worldwide. She underscored that pharmacists today are not limited to dispensing medications but are involved in global health initiatives, research, patient counselling, and chronic disease management.
Gourav Nanda (Principal) also spoke and highlighted the Pharmacists as critical professionals in the delivery of healthcare in the country as they bring in-depth knowledge of medicine composition, formulation and usage. The role of a pharmacist is gradually evolving from a dispenser of medicines to an expert in the field with multidisciplinary health care systems.
Dr. Shalumol Jose (HOD) highlighted the increasing demands on pharmacists in a post-pandemic world. "Pharmacists are at the forefront of many critical healthcare interventions. Their expertise in medication management, patient care, and healthcare innovation makes them integral to global efforts in combating health crises, from pandemics to chronic diseases," she said.
The Pharmacy Day celebrations at RGIP, Jammu, featured a variety of activities including Interactive Sessions, Speeches, Poems, Skit, Quizes & Poster presentation where students highlighted the importance of Pharma education for the well-being of society, followed by prize distribution ceremony by the dignitaries.
The event concluded with the vote of thanks present by Seema Matoo, other staff members who made this event successful were Mansi Chadha, Sourav, Rahul, Abhishek, Dilbag Singh, Rushal Manhas, Sain Dass, Dinesh.
