Early Times Report
JAMMU, Oct 9: In line with the Government of India's "Special Campaign 4.0 for Swachhta" initiative, the NSS Unit of Government Degree College (GDC) Sidhra, under the aegis of the Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), organized a "Shram Daan" cleanliness drive at Bajalta Railway Station. The event aimed to promote this year's theme, "Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachhata," which focuses on instilling cleanliness as a natural habit and core societal value among citizens.
The campaign, which runs from October 2 to October 31, 2024, was led by NSS Program Officer Dr. Purvaiya Hans, along with NSS volunteers and faculty members. The volunteers carried out an extensive cleaning operation at the railway station with support from local Government Railway Police (GRP) officials.
During the drive, Dr. Purvaiya Hans emphasized the importance of cleanliness and sanitation in daily life and encouraged students to spread the message of cleanliness within their families and communities. She urged the students to adopt cleanliness as a way of life, not only for personal health but also for environmental sustainability.
Principal of GDC Sidhra, Dr. G.S. Rakwal, praised the volunteers for their dedication and highlighted that cleanliness and sanitation are integral to the Gandhian philosophy. He noted that cleanliness plays a crucial role in ensuring public health and reducing the burden on healthcare systems while contributing to a cleaner environment.
The event was organized under the guidance of Dr. G.S. Rakwal, with faculty members Dr. Harpreet Kour, Dr. Mussarat Chowdhary, Prof. Shonima Malhotra, Deepak Kumar, and Prof. Pooja Sharma also in attendance.
