GDC Ramnagar celebrated International Girl Child day with great pomp and show

RAMNAGAR, Oct 11: Women development cell of GDC Ramnagar celebrated international Girl child day-2024 on 11-10-2024 under the able patronship of Prof. (Dr) Bhavnaish Chand Anthal, Principal GDC Ramnagar. The events were organized under the Sanklap Hub for Empowerment of women (Mission Shakti) Udhampur. The International Day of the girl child aligns with the mandate of the scheme Beti Bachao Beti Padao (BBBP), reinforcing the commitment to the survival, protection and empowerment of the girls. The celebration started with welcome address by Prof Tanmeet Kour, Department of English followed by the debate competition and poster making competition. The debate and poster making competition focused on highlighting the importance of education, gender equality, and opportunities for girls to lead, innovate, and shape their futures. The theme of the competitions were 'Girls vision for the future' and 'Beti Bachao Beti Padao' respectively. Around 10 students participated in debate and 15 students in poster making competition. Prof Ashni Devi (HOD Botany), Dr Pankaj Sharma (HOD English) and Prof Parminder Kumar (HOD Information Technology) were the jury members. In poster making competition Rama from third semester stood first, Shivani Slathia from 5th semester stood second and Surishta from semester third stood third. However, in debate competition Arti from 5th semester stood first,Anju Devi from semester third stood second and Vidut Modi from third semester stood third. Principal Prof. (Dr) Bhavnaish Chand Anthal opined that the issue of decline in Child Sex Ratio all over the country is the matter of concern. He also emphasized the importance of educating women and improving their stand in the community and family.
