Early Times Report

JAMMU, Oct 11: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday introduced new recruitment guidelines for the Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service. The rules, brought into effect through a government notification (SO 500), mark a significant shift in the recruitment process for police officers.
According to the notification, recruitment will be conducted through direct appointments and promotions.
The Jammu and Kashmir Public Service Commission (JKPSC) will handle direct recruitment, while promotions will be overseen by the Departmental Promotion Committee (DPC).
The new guidelines apply to several cadres, including General, Telecommunication, Ministerial, Stenography, Photography, Police Transport Workshop, and Arms/Ammunition.
Two selection committees, led by senior officials, including the Chief Secretary and Director General of Police, have been formed to supervise promotions and placements within the department.
The fresh rules replace the Jammu and Kashmir Police (Gazetted) Service Recruitment Rules of 2002, aiming to create a more structured and transparent recruitment process for the police force.
With the notification now in force, the reforms are expected to strengthen the recruitment system across various cadres.
