3-Day Open Table Tennis Championship commences

UDHAMPUR, Oct 21: 3-day Open Table Tennis Championship, organized by the District Table Tennis Association Udhampur, began today at the Indoor Hall, Subash Stadium, Udhampur. The event, aimed at promoting table tennis and nurturing young talent, opened with a prestigious ceremony attended by several distinguished guests.
Chief guest DIG Udhampur-Reasi Range, Shri Rayees Mohd Bhat, IPS, inaugurated the championship with a motivating address. He was joined by CEO of Municipal Council Udhampur, Vishal Sadotra, and SHO Udhampur, Raghubir Chowdhary, who attended as Guests of Honor.
Tarun, General Secretary of Udhampur Table Tennis Association (UTTA), presented the welcome address, paying a heartfelt floral tribute to Lt. Shri Devinder Sharma (Munna Thanda), the former General Secretary of the association, and recognized his significant contributions to the sport. In his speech, Tarun Chauhan warmly welcomed all the guests and participants, emphasizing the purpose of the tournament in channeling the energy of the region's youth into productive and healthy pursuits through sports.
In his speech, DIG Rayees Mohd Bhat, IPS, inspired the young players, encouraging them to remain dedicated to sports and physical fitness. He also took the opportunity to highlight the sacrifices made by police personnel on Police Martyrs Day, paying homage to those who laid down their lives in the line of duty.
The championship will continue for the next two days, featuring exciting matches across various categories, with the winners to be awarded on the final day. Closing ceremony cum prize distribution function will be held on 23 October 2024 at 2:30 PM.
The event has attracted a large number of participants from Udhampur District and beyond, marking it as a key event for aspiring athletes in the region. The District Table Tennis Association Udhampur expressed its gratitude to all the participants and dignitaries, aiming to foster a culture of sportsmanship and competitive spirit among the youth.
On opening day League matches were played
In under 11 boys category, Sukant ganotra beat kritin khajuria by 2-0 set score.
In under 13 boys category , Aryaman sharma beat Dikshat thakur by 2-0 set score.
In under 13 girls category, adhira singh beat anushka by 2-0 set score.
In under 15 girls category, Kamakshi Raina beat Pooja Devi by 2-1 set score .
