JAMMU, Oct 21: National Police Day, popularly known as Police Commemoration Day, was observed with solemnity across the Jammu Province. The day is observed in commemoration of the ten valiant martyrs of the CRPF who made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty on October 21, 1959. They laid down their lives in an ambush laid by heavily armed Chinese troops at Hot Springs, Ladakh, at an altitude of 4681 meters.
Impressive commemorative events were held in all ten districts of Jammu Province, with a large number of senior police officers, retired personnel, members of martyrs' families, and representatives of civil society participating in the solemn functions.
The main event in the winter capital was held at Gulshan Ground, Jammu, where Shri Anand Jain, IPS, ADGP Jammu Zone, took the ceremonial salute at the Commemoration Day Parade. The event saw the participation of GOs of all Jammu-based units, along with senior and retired police officers, media personnel, and prominent citizens.
Anand Jain, IPS, ADGP Jammu Zone, read out the names of the brave martyrs, which included personnel from police organizations and para military forces such as BSF, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, NCB, NDRF, and FS, CD, and HG. In his address, he praised the invaluable contributions of these martyrs, noting that J&K Police has been serving the nation and society with dedication and courage, often under the most hostile and challenging circumstances, and at the cost of their personal safety and comfort. He also prayed for the eternal peace of the departed souls and extended his heartfelt wishes for the welfare and prosperity of their families.
Anand Jain, IPS, paid rich tributes to the martyrs who laid down their lives for the unity and integrity of the nation over the past year. Following the ceremony, ADGP Jammu Zone interacted with the next of kin (NOK) of the martyrs, listening attentively to their grievances and assuring them of full support and timely action on the requests they submitted.
Earlier, all Jammu-based GOs assembled at the Police Martyrs Memorial at the Railway Station, where floral tributes were paid to the martyrs. A blood donation camp was also organized at Police hospital Jammu in collaboration with GMC Jammu, in which some senior police officers and other volunteers donated 80 units of blood.
