Instagram to allow users to post three-minute long reels

HYDERABAD, Jan 20: Instagram, has expanded its per reel time limit to three-minutes. Prior to this update, the Meta-owned short-video sharing app had a cap of 90-seconds per reel.
In a video post on the platform, CEO Adam Mosseri, said: "You can now upload reels up to three minutes long. We've historically only allowed reels up to 90 seconds given our focus on short-form video, but we've heard the feedback that this is just too short for those who want to share longer stories. Hope this helps."
The update comes less than a year after Mr. Mosseri discouraged users from posting long videos and said that posts longer than 90 seconds can "hurt distribution". It was interesting to hear him say this at that point as the platform only allowed users to post 90 seconds long video at max.
Per a report by The Information, Mr. Mosseri, at an event in New York in April, shared some pointers that could negatively affect distribution. The slideshow listed "Reels over 90 seconds" along with four other features that could limit distribution on Instagram.
