Early Times Report

SRINAGAR, Jan 20: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast scattered light to moderate rain and snow across Jammu and Kashmir over the next three days, beginning Monday. According to the Met office, the weather is expected to remain generally cloudy, with light rain and snow likely at scattered locations across the region over the next 24 hours.
A fresh spell of light to moderate rain is anticipated in the plains of Jammu, along with snowfall in several areas of Jammu and Kashmir on January 22. Higher altitudes, including the Chenab Valley and the Pir Panjal Range, are also likely to receive light to moderate snowfall during this period.
Another round of light to moderate rain in the plains and snowfall in many areas of Jammu and Kashmir is expected on January 23.
The weather is predicted to remain mostly dry from January 24 to 28. However, there is a slight chance of light rain and snow in isolated locations between January 29 and January 31.
Meanwhile, the night temperature again plummeted at many weather stations but recorded above normal at various places in the Kashmir Valley during the intervening night of Sunday and Monday.
Srinagar dipped to a low of -3.2°C against the -1°C recorded the previous night, and this was 1.2°C below average for the summer capital of Jammu and Kashmir during the period.
The famous ski resort of Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district settled at -7.8°C for the second consecutive day on Monday, and this was 2.4°C above normal for the Valley of Meadows during this period of the season.
The night temperature at Pahalgam plunged and was recorded at -6.4°C against the -3°C the previous night. This was 0.1°C below normal for the Valley of Shepherds during the period.
The minimum temperature at Qazigund on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway also witnessed a drop and was recorded at -3°C against the -2.8°C on Sunday, and it was, however, 0.1°C above normal for the gateway to Kashmir during the period, the Met office said.
Kashmir’s frontier district of Kupwara recorded a marginal improvement in the night temperature and settled at -1.4°C against the -2.6°C a day ago, and this was still 1.5°C above normal for the place during this period of the season.
Kokernag in south Kashmir also witnessed improvement and recorded at -2.4°C against the -3.4°C the previous night, and it was 1.1°C above the average for the picnic spot during the period.
