KVK Reasi educates students on Modern Farming Techniques

REASI, Feb 4: Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi under the aegis of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu (SKUAST-J) educated the students of Govt.High School Sirla, Reasi on Modern Farming Techniques here today at KVK Reasi campus which was attended by the number of students and school teachers. The programme was organised under the dynamic stewardship of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof. B.N. Triptahi and able guidance of Director Extension (DE), Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J.Dr. Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist &Head of KVK Reasi initiated the programme with the warm welcome of the participants. He gave a detail view of modern farming techniques and discussed in detail on the hydroponics technology, lemongrass farming, mushroom farming, fruit and vegetables processing, weather forecasting, advance horticulture etc. He said that In response to the growing disinterest of the younger generation in farming, the Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) is taking proactive steps to rekindle enthusiasm for agriculture by showcasing modern techniques and innovative farming practices.He further said that KVK Reasi is demonstrating smart farming solutions, precision agriculture, hydroponics, drone technology, organic/natural farming, mushroom farming, poultry farming, value addition techniques etc. to attract young minds. He added that through workshops, live demonstrations, skill development programmes and interactive sessions, KVK is aiming to present agriculture as a profitable and sustainable career option rather than a traditional livelihood. He narrated that the younger generation perceives farming as labour-intensive and less rewarding and by integrating modern technology and scientific methods, we are making agriculture more efficient, profitable and appealing to youth. He narrated by the scientific farming rural youths can fetch more farm returns.He highlighted that KVK's efforts are part of a broader mission to bridge the knowledge gap, enhance farm productivity and encourage agripreneurship. He discussed on scientific cultivation of turmeric, ginger and aromatic and medicinal plants cultivation as these crops are not affected by the monkeys. He emphasized on the value addition in different crops by which the farm income can be enhanced. During the programme special video show on commercial agriculture and an exhibition was also arranged for the students. Various units such as hydroponics unit, nano-kitchen garden, DAMU Unit, nano kitchen garden, greenshade net house, crop cafeteria, mushroom unit, Azolla unit etc. were demonstrated to students and they showed keen interest in the technologies demonstrated by the KVK. The programme was co-ordinated by the Head of the School, Gopal Dass. Mohinder Kuma and other teachers of school thanked KVK Reasi for organising such a useful programme. The programme was concluded by Manohar Lal with formal vote of thanks.
