Kashmir continues to freeze

SRINAGAR, Feb 5: Night temperatures across Kashmir remain below freezing, with the ski resort of Gulmarg emerging as the coldest place in the region, officials said on Wednesday.
The Meteorological Department said that parts of Kashmir, including Pahalgam and Kokernag in south Kashmir, as well as Kupwara in north Kashmir, received light rainfall over the past 24 hours.
There is a possibility of scattered light rain or snow on Wednesday. The weather is likely to remain partly cloudy and dry from Thursday.
MeT data said Gulmarg in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district shivered at -7.5 C, making it one of the coldest inhabited places in the region.
The night temperature at the famous tourist resort of Pahalgam in south Kashmir was -3.6 C.
MeT said that Srinagar recorded a minimum temperature of -1.2 C, a slight rise from the previous night.
Qazigund in south Kashmir reported sub-zero temperatures at -1 C.
The Meteorological Department has forecast fresh spells of light rain and snow in Jammu and Kashmir from February 9 to 12.
They said light rain and snow are likely at isolated to scattered places on February 9 and 10. This will be followed by generally cloudy skies on February 11 and 12, with the possibility of light precipitation at isolated locations.
