CBI arrests Section Officer over bribery charges

Jammu, Mar 6: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) on Thursday said to have arrested an accused Section Officer of Sheep & Husbandry and Fisheries Section, Agriculture Production Department, Civil Secretariat, Govt. of J&K, Jammu for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant through UPI transaction.
“A case was registered on 05.03.2025 by CBI against said accused on allegations that accused demanded a bribe of Rs.5 Lakh from the complainant for issuing / processing the case of his father for appointment as Stock Assistant in the Department, pursuant to Advertisement No. 3 of 2007 of J&K Service Selection Board and CAT (Jammu) order dated 15.10.2024. The bribe amount was allegedly negotiated and the accused asked to pay Rs.50,000/- as bribe through online UPI and once favorable decision is taken in this regard, the accused would further ask for the remaining amount,” a spokesman said in a statement.
CBI laid a trap on 05.03.2025 and caught the accused after demanding and accepting bribe of Rs 50,000/- from the complainant through online UPI transaction at the said Mobile Number provided by the accused. CBI also conducted searches at the residential premises of accused at Jammu, he said.
The accused was subsequently arrested and was produced before the Hon’ble Court of Special Judge, Anti-Corruption (CBI Cases), Jammu on 06.03.2025 and the Ld. Court remanded the accused to Judicial Custody for 14 days, the statement reads, adding that investigation is continuing.
