GDC Sidhra organizes IEC Campaign against drug abuse

JAMMU, Apr 3: Government Degree College (GDC) Sidhra organized an Information, Education, and Communication (IEC) Campaign under the J&K Nasha Mukt Abhiyan, as part of the anti-drug initiative launched by the District Administration Jammu under DC Sh. Sachin Kumar Vaishya (IAS). The campaign aimed to raise awareness about drug abuse and its prevention. The event commenced with a welcome address by Prof. Deepa Kak, Convener of the Anti-Drug and Rehabilitation Cell. Various resource persons from different departments educated students and the community about the dangers of drug addiction. As a token of appreciation, saplings were presented to dignitaries by Principal Dr. G.S. Rakwal.
Key speakers included:
Dr. Vandana, MO, NTPHC Bain Bajalta, who explained the impact of substances like morphine, heroin, and synthetic drugs on the brain's reward system, leading to addiction.
Neeraj Parihar, Police Department, who highlighted the criminal activities linked to drug abuse, social isolation, and its devastating effects on families.
Siraj Ahmed, Protection Officer, Social Welfare Department, who informed students about rehabilitation helplines (14446), women's helpline (181), and child helpline (1098).
Manjeet Singh, Tehsil Officer, Social Welfare Department, who emphasized prevention strategies and the need for community efforts to combat drug abuse.
The event also featured a musical performance and a Nukkad Natak by Nav Durga Manch in collaboration with the Information and Public Relations Department. Speaking on the occasion, Principal Dr. G.S. Rakwal urged students to lead a drug-free, healthy life and actively participate in awareness campaigns. The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Shonima Malhotra, with coordination by Sh. Jagdish Singh, Naib Tehsildar, Bajalta, and Prof. Deepa Kak.
With active participation from students, faculty, and representatives from various departments, the campaign reinforced the importance of collective action against drug abuse.
