Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 12: Over a dozen Congress, including some self-proclaimed district president of the party are likely to face action for their anti-party activities as the party high command has decided to maintain discipline at any cost.
Highly placed sources said that after receiving a representation from senior leaders from J&K, the Congress high command has decided to take exemplary action against those who have launched a malicious campaign against J&K Congress chief Tariq Hamid Karra and AICC general secretary Ghulam Ahmed Mir. “List of all leaders, who have been publicly challenging authority of Karra and Mir, has already been prepared and same has been forwarded to party high command for taking strict action”, a source in the Congress said, adding, “A senior leader who is encouraging these disgruntled elements, is also under scanner of the high command”.
As reported earlier, last week, a group of Congress workers from Jammu and Kashmir gathered outside the AICC headquarters, raising slogans against Karra and Mir, whom they blamed for the party’s decline in the region.
Holding placards and chanting slogans like “Remove Karra, Save Congress” and “Mir & Karra Betray Workers,” the protesters—many of whom claimed to be long-serving members with no persona

motives—insisted their only goal was to rescue the party from further ruin in the region.
After this incident, the top brass of the Congress in Jammu and Kashmir on April 7, sought stern action against the acts of indiscipline indulged in by a few individuals in the recent days, terming it against the interests of the party.
“This kind of highly irresponsible act and anti party activities by few, not only maligns the top leadership but seriously damages the party in J&K ,where it is supposed to play a very vital role in the larger interest of nation and democracy, in view of the multiple challenges & senstivities attached to this region”, senior leaders stated in a joint statement issued on April 7.
“How can party afford to tolerate such elements ,who can cross all limits of decency and party discipline for their individual interests ,showing complete disregard to the image of the party and the established leadership”, they said, adding, “This calls for strict and immediate action to nip the evil in the bud, otherwise such irresponsible elements would be further encouraged to vitiate the atmosphere of smooth working in the party, which has recently geared up to unitedly play the desired role of a vibrant democratic, secular, unifying force in Jammu and Kashmir”.
