Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 12: Drug addiction emerged as the biggest challenge in Jammu and Kashmir, as the main cause of Jammu’s sensational gold heist case of Greater Kailash, followed by the gruesome murder of a youth, was this menace.
Highly placed sources said that all those arrested by the police in this high-profile case were habitual drug addicts and that these accused could commit any crime to fulfil their requirement of drugs.
Earlier, drug addicts used to be involved in petty crimes, but this sensational case has exposed how serious the threat of the menace of drug addiction.
While the drug lords are funding terror groups with the money earned through smuggling narcotics, drug addict youth are now involved in committing heinous crimes like the Greater Kailash robbery followed by the murder of their friend.
Not only has this case exposed the involvement of drug addicts in committing heinous crime, according to police, an advocate has masterminded this sensational crime, including robbery and murder of his own friend.
Jammu's sensational Greater Kailash gold heist case was not confined to robbery. It took a shocking turn as the alleged perpetrators murdered a young man to conceal their crime. The victim, identified as Harsh Dev Singh, 24, was stoned to death by three individuals, including the alleged mastermind, advocate Rahul Sharma. His body was buried a

proximately eight kilometers from the site of the gruesome murder.
The Greater Kailash gold shop robbery led Jammu Police to uncover a chilling twist—the cold-blooded killing of a young man to cover up the heist. The victim was murdered because he knew about the robbery and was demanding a share of the looted gold from a shop in the Greater Kailash area of Jammu City.
Compounding the horror, the same group of addicts is implicated in the gruesome murder of a youth, believed to be a friend or acquaintance of the perpetrators. The killing, characterized by its brutality, appears to have been motivated by disputes or desperation linked to their shared addiction. This tragic loss of life has further highlighted the destructive ripple effects of drug dependency, not only on those who use but also on their families, friends, and communities.
Historically, drug addicts in Jammu and Kashmir were associated with petty crimes—small-scale thefts, burglaries, or minor acts of vandalism—committed to sustain their habits. However, the Greater Kailash case marks a disturbing escalation. The sophistication of the heist and the violence of the subsequent murder signal a dangerous evolution in the behavior of those ensnared by addiction. No longer confined to minor offenses, drug-dependent individuals are now implicated in heinous crimes that threaten the safety and stability of the region.
