Chinese Huawei satellite phone was operational in Baisaran Valley during terror attack
4/28/2025 10:42:25 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Apr 28: Nearly a week after the cowardly and barbaric terrorist attack in the Baisaran Valley of the picturesque Pahalgam resort in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, the National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formally taken over the investigation. The attack, which took place on April 22, claimed the lives of 26 unarmed, innocent people — all tourists except one.
As the probe gathers momentum, significant leads have begun to emerge. Among the most startling developments is the discovery of a satellite phone linked to Chinese telecommunications giant Huawei, believed to have been operational in the area around the time of the attack.
According to reports, security agencies have confirmed the detection of signals from a Huawei-manufactured satellite phone in the vicinity of Baisaran Valley on the day the attack unfolded. This new angle has added a troubling international dimension to the investigation. It is suspected that such devices, banned in many parts of India due to security concerns, may have been smuggled into the country from Pakistan across the Line of Control (LoC) or via other foreign routes.
What is the mystery of the Chinese company’s satellite phone in the Pahalgam attack? A new angle has emerged in the Pahalgam attack, that of a satellite phone of the Chinese company Huawei. According to a report, security agencies are confirming the movement of a ‘Huawei satellite phone’ in the same area and during the same time on the day of the Pahalgam attack.
Sources indicate that intelligence inputs, technical surveillance, and assistance from certain Western security agencies have been instrumental in uncovering this lead. Moreover, Over Ground Workers (OGWs) — civilian collaborators who assist militants — from across the Kashmir Valley are currently under questioning to trace the origin and usage of the satellite phone.
Investigators are also seeking corroborative evidence and eyewitness testimonies to strengthen the trail around the satellite communication device. The ability of militants to use such equipment raises concerns over the sophistication and planning involved in the Pahalgam attack.
Initial assumptions that only three terrorists were involved in the attack have now been challenged. Authorities, citing multiple eyewitness accounts, suggest that more than half a dozen attackers executed the assault on the unsuspecting tourists.
Security officials clarified that the three individuals whose pictures went viral on social media after the attack have largely been ruled out as direct participants. This has expanded the scope of the investigation considerably, with a broader search now underway for the actual perpetrators.
As reported earlier, significant breakthrough in the investigation came through the analysis of mobile phone data. Security agencies have reportedly identified 15 local OGWs whose mobile phones were active in the Baisaran Valley at the time of the attack.
While investigation agencies have maintained a tight-lipped approach in public, sources reveal that the presence of these OGWs in the attack zone is viewed as highly suspicious. It is believed that these individuals provided crucial logistical support to the terrorists — including navigation assistance, intelligence on tourist movements, shelter, and safe escape routes.
Electronic surveillance played a pivotal role in this discovery. Detailed tracking of mobile signals, location data, and communication patterns helped establish the OGWs’ proximity to the crime scene during the deadly assault. The usage patterns suggest premeditated collaboration with the terrorists.
Preliminary findings indicate that the attack was carried out by a group comprising both local militants and at least two foreign terrorists, believed to be Pakistani nationals. This hybrid group is suspected to have planned the operation meticulously, leveraging both indigenous knowledge of the terrain and sophisticated foreign tactical support.
The OGWs are thought to have acted as vital cogs in this machinery — providing not just shelter and supplies but also real-time intelligence. Their role enabled the attackers to execute the strike with chilling precision and subsequently evade security forces by melting into the rugged and forested landscape of the Baisaran Valley.
As the NIA intensifies its probe, further arrests and revelations are expected in the coming days. Security forces remain on high alert across the Kashmir Valley to thwart any follow-up attacks and apprehend the remaining suspects involved in the Pahalgam carnage.
