After aggressive retaliation, Pak DGMO approached for ceasefire | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 11: The Indian armed forces on Sunday confirmed that several Pakistani fighter jets were downed during the recent cross-border conflict, marking the first official statement on the matter amid widespread speculation over the outcome of the escalation. At a high-level press briefing, defence officials stated that Pakistani aircraft had attempted to breach Indian airspace but were intercepted and repelled. While the number of jets destroyed has not yet been disclosed, officials said a detailed assessment is underway. “These facts can’t remain hidden forever,” one official remarked, hinting at more disclosures to come. The military also outlined key achievements of ‘Operation Sindoor’, launched in response to the April 22 terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives. According to the briefing, Indian forces struck terror camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (PoK) on May 7, neutralising approximately 100 terrorists. Over the following days, in an exchange of fire with Pakistani forces, an estimated 30 to 40 Pakistani military personnel were reported killed. Officials also addressed claims circulating in Pakistani and international media regarding Indian losses, includ “Indian Air Force strikes targeted and damaged 11 Pakistani air bases, including Nur Khan, Rafiqui, Murid, Sukkur, and Sialkot, destroying 20% of Pakistan’s air infrastructure. Significant casualties were reported at Bholari Air Base.” ng reports of Rafale jets being shot down. They dismissed these as unverified, asserting that all Indian pilots were accounted for and safe. However, they refrained from sharing operational specifics, citing ongoing high alert following a Pakistani ceasefire violation that occurred mere hours after a temporary truce was agreed upon on Saturday. To substantiate India’s military success, the armed forces presented before-and-after satellite imagery of 21 targeted terror hubs across nine locations in Pakistan and PoJK. The images, officials said, offer irrefutable evidence of the precision and effectiveness of the Indian strikes. The briefing also highlighted Pakistan’s role in escalating hostilities, including cross-border shelling and a wave of drone incursions. Officials said that in response, Indian forces struck key Pakistani airbases — a move believed to have triggered Islamabad’s eventual appeal for a ceasefire. Reiterating India’s stance, defence officials emphasized that the armed forces had refrained from targeting civilian areas or military infrastructure at the outset. “We achieved our objectives,” they stated, adding that any future acts of aggression would be met with a swift and decisive military response. |
