AGENCIES LUCKNOW, May 21: Irrigation schemes launched by the Yogi government are significantly transforming the lives of farmers across Uttar Pradesh. By expanding access to irrigation, over two crore farmers have seen a substantial rise in their income. In just the past year, 394 irrigation projects were completed, benefiting 64 lakh farmers. In a landmark move to improve agricultural productivity, the government has created or restored 50 lakh hectares of cultivable land, enabling farmers to grow more crops and enhance their earnings. These steps reflect the government's commitment to transforming agriculture into a more sustainable and profitable sector. Driven by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath's vision, more than 1,100 irrigation projects have been approved over the last eight years, many of which are complete. These projects form a cornerstone of the state's efforts to establish Uttar Pradesh as a model state in agriculture. Where water scarcity once hindered farming, robust irrigation infrastructure-including canals, ponds, and borewells-has changed the landscape. Regions previously unsuited for cultivation now yield bountiful harvests, improving farmers' livelihoods and boosting the rural economy. According to official data, the 394 projects completed in the last year alone have provided tangible benefits to lakhs of farmers. The government is now working towards ensuring that most of the state's agricultural land is connected to reliable irrigation systems in the coming years. In addition to large-scale irrigation projects, the Yogi government has promoted micro-irrigation techniques such as drip and sprinkler systems to ensure optimal water usage. These innovations prevent water wastage and ensure timely irrigation for crops.
