Vikar Rasool Wani commemorates former PM Rajiv Gandhi's legacy on 34th death anniversary

BANIHAL, May 21: In a remarkable gathering of Congress workers at Banihal, senior Congress Leader & Member Congress Working Committee Vikar Rasool Wani paid solemn tributes to former Prime Minister Rajiv Gandhi on his 34th death anniversary. The commemoration saw unprecedented attendance from party leaders /Workers across the region.
Distinguished party Leaders present at the occasion included Senior Vice Presidents G.N. Monga and Mohammad Answer Bhat, Vice Presidents G.S. Khan and Fayaz Ahmad Dar, General Secretaries Master Maqbool,B.A. Khan, Irfan Naqbandhi, Imtiyaz Khandey, Shameema Khan, along with Secretaries Irshad Ganje, Dr. G.N. Lone, and Firdos Ahmad Wani.
The event was further graced by the presence of prominently & senior leaders including Advocate Sheikh Farooq Habeeb, Gh Qadir Bhat, Haji Mohammad Yousuf, Parvaz Ahmad Wani,Ab Wahab (WP) Showkat Ahmad Bhat (WP) Farooq Ahmad Kotch, and Fawad Ahmad Khan & Shameema Khan VP Mahila Congress
During his address, Wani offered floral tributes to the former Prime Minister and eloquently highlighted Gandhi's transformative contributions to modern India. He particularly emphasized Gandhi's pioneering role in ushering in the technological revolution, earning him recognition as the "Father of Information Technology" in India.
Wani specifically noted Gandhi's visionary introduction of Public Call Offices (PCOs) across the country, which revolutionized rural connectivity by bringing telecommunications to previously isolated villages. This initiative was lauded as a cornerstone of Gandhi's commitment to bridging the urban-rural divide.
Wani also highlighted Gandhi's significant agricultural reforms, particularly his focus on enhancing irrigation infrastructure to provide reliable water access to farmers for cultivation. These measures substantially improved agricultural productivity and rural livelihoods during his tenure.
Wani elaborated on Gandhi's enduring legacy, noting his instrumental role in the 73rd Constitutional Amendment that granted constitutional status to the Panchayati Raj system, effectively decentralizing governance to the village level. He also praised other significant initiatives including the Kissan Nyay Yojana, comprehensive education reforms, progressive foreign policy, and anti-corruption measures.
The Congress leader further underscored Gandhi's democratic vision in reducing the voting age from 21 to 18 years, which revolutionized electoral participation among India's youth. Describing the late Prime Minister as the architect of modern India, Wani characterized Rajiv Gandhi as a symbol of harmony and goodwill whose leadership continues to inspire generations of Indians.
The commemoration served as both a remembrance of Gandhi's sacrifice and a reaffirmation of the party's commitment to his inclusive vision for the nation's development.
