MCM conducts workshop on Alcohol, drug awareness program

Chandigarh, May 21: The Geetanjali Counselling Helpline and Hostel Committee of Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, Chandigarh, in collaboration with NGO Alcoholics Anonymous (AA) conducted a workshop on ‘Alcohol and Drug Awareness Program’ under their mental health initiative of ‘Swachh Mann Abhiyan’. The resource persons were Sh. Sanjeev Kaushal, CPC Chairman, Alcoholics Anonymous, Chandigarh and his team members from AA Chandigarh and Delhi to share their first-hand experiences, and provide insight and support to the students. Other experts included Sh. Dilbagh Singh, Counselling and Behavioral Skills Specialist with a strong focus on de-addiction and rehabilitation, Ms. Deepali Verma, Soft skills Trainer and Image Consultant, Ms. Roopam Singh, Translator, Teacher and Journalist, and Ms. Kritika, Software Professional. They discussed case studies of alcoholic individuals and effective strategies of de-addiction. The panelists also highlighted the need for Standard Operating Procedures for de-addiction centers with necessary health facilities including the identification of drug addicts for admission to centers, providing health services, and extending support ato their dependent families.
Being equipped with their personal experiences of alcoholism and having resurrected to social living through AA, it was their endeavor to help create public awareness through the social and professional system at varied array of platforms. Officiating Principal Ms. Neena Sharma appreciated the incessant efforts of the Geetanjali Counselling Helpline to raise awareness about mental health literacy and regularly organizing sensitisation programmes on relevant psychosocial issues to empower the students.
