Jammu, May 21: To commemorate International Biodiversity Day, observed globally on May 22, the Biodiversity Cell of the J&K Biodiversity Council, Jammu, in collaboration with the Environment Unit of MIER College of Education, organized a Painting/Poster Making Competition on May 20, 2025, under the theme “Harmony with Nature and Sustainable Development.” The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from more than 16 students of MIER College of Education, who used their artistic talents to highlight the importance of biodiversity and sustainable living. Through thought-provoking visuals and creative expression, the participants conveyed compelling messages about the need to live in harmony with nature. The competition was judged by Prof. Nishta Rana, Professor and Head, School of Education, and Dr. Monika Bajaj, Associate Professor and Head, School of Social Sciences and Humanities. The judges praised the artistic excellence, creativity, and depth of environmental awareness demonstrated by the students. In a close contest, the First Prize was jointly awarded to Ms. Sonakshi Gupta (B.A. Hons. Political Science, Semester VI) and Ms. Shweta (B.Ed. Special Education, Semester II) for their outstanding creativity and impactful presentation. The Second Prize was shared by Ms. Janvi Sharma (B.Ed., Semester II) and Mr. Paaras Chib (B.A. Hons. Psychology, Semester II), who impressed the judges with their originality and confident execution. Ms. Manvi Parmar (B.Ed. Special Education, Semester IV) earned the Third Prize for her commendable effort and unique perspective. A Consolation Prize was awarded to Ms. Shriya Mantoo (B.A. Hons. Psychology, Semester VI) in recognition of her sincere participation and artistic contribution. All participants, including prize winners, received Certificates of Participation and Awards from the J&K Biodiversity Council, acknowledging their dedication and creative engagement with the theme. Prof. Adit Gupta, Director, and Principal of MIER College of Education, congratulated the winners and appreciated the initiative, stating, “Observing World Biodiversity Day proved essential for spreading awareness about the importance of biodiversity and the urgent need for its conservation. The efforts of the Environment Unit were acknowledged for having organized such a meaningful and inspiring event in collaboration with the Biodiversity Council, which encouraged environmental responsibility among students.” |
