Jammu, May 25: The border town of Poonch has been turned into a landscape of sorrow following intense Pakistani shelling on the night of May 6–7, 2025. The attack claimed the lives of at least 13 civilians, including four children, and left 59 others injured. Among the bereaved are Rameez Khan and Urusa Khan, who lost their 12-year-old twins, Aruba and Ayan, and Sanjeev Kumar Bhargava, whose only son, 13-year-old Vihaan, was killed in the barrage. The tragedy has sparked widespread outrage and grief across the nation. The heavy artillery and mortar shelling, which began in the intervening night of May 6 and 7, targeted residential areas near the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch, destroying homes and shattering lives. Rameez, severely injured by shrapnel to his liver, is fighting for his life in the ICU at the Government Medical College Hospital in Jammu. To shield him from further trauma, his family has not yet informed him of his children’s deaths. Urusa, also injured, is grappling with the devastating loss. The relentless shelling targeted homes, schools, and places of worship, leaving landmarks like the Poonch bus stand and Christ School damaged.
