Early Times Report CHANDIGARH, July 7: The Department of Home Science at Mehr Chand Mahajan DAV College for Women, in collaboration with NSS units and Municipal Corporation, Chandigarh, concluded its seven-day workshop titled 'Kala aur Atmanirbharta' with a valedictory ceremony. The initiative, aimed at promoting skill development and entrepreneurship in the domain of Home Science, witnessed enthusiastic participation from individuals across diverse backgrounds and age groups (18-52 years). Jasbir Singh Bunty, Deputy Mayor, Chandigarh, graced the valedictory session as the Chief Guest. In his address, he lauded the college's efforts in empowering women through skill-based education and urged participants to strive to become job creators rather than job seekers. The event was further graced by a host of dignitaries, including Prof. Parveen Goyal, NSS Programme Coordinator, Panjab University; GRIID Chandigarh Principal Dr. Ajeet Sidana, and NSS Programme Officers Dr. M. Karuppasamy and Dr. Niharika Sharma; GMSSS 37B Principal Mrs. Gurbakash Kaur, and NSS PO Mrs. Seema Choudhary; and GMSSS 37D Principal Mrs. Asha Rani and NSS PO Mr. Sikander Lamba. Over the span of the workshop, the participants engaged in a wide range of hands-on training sessions, including those on Tie and Dye, Block Printing, Fabric Painting, Assorted Chocolates, Healthy Cakes and Muffins, and Cookies and Biscuits. The sessions were led by expert resource persons Dr. Harjot Kaur Mann (Nutrition) and Dr. Rati Arora (Textiles), who not only imparted practical training but also guided participants on initial investment, cost analysis, and profit margins- equipping them with knowledge to turn their skills into viable business ventures. The workshop saw participation from 38 individuals representing various sections of society. In their feedback, many expressed intent to take up entrepreneurship based on their newly acquired skills. Particularly inspiring were instructors from GRIID, Sector 31, Chandigarh, who shared their plans to impart these skills to their special students, thus creating a meaningful ripple effect.
