Early Times Report
REASI, July 23: In a significant move towards women empowerment and community development, the Deputy Commissioner Nidhi Malik today inaugurated the "Didi Ki Rasoi" canteen at Government Polytechnic College Reasi.
The canteen is operated by Women Self-Help Groups (SHGs) formed under the Deendayal Antyodaya Yojana - National Urban Livelihoods Mission (DAY-NULM) and aims to offer affordable, nutritious, home-cooked meals to students, faculty, visitors and the general public.
The inauguration ceremony was attended by Project Officer DUDA Udhampur-Reasi, Jaffar Azad; Principal of the Institution Er. Arun Bangotra and other officials.
The initiative serves a dual purpose of providing Women SHG a sustainable source of income and ensuring access to healthy & hygienic food at reasonably price to the community. It also serves as a platform for SHG members to showcase their culinary talent and entrepreneurial capabilities.
Addressing the gathering, the DC appreciated the SHG members and the concerned departments for launching the initiative. She emphasized the importance of economic independence of women, noting that the venture "Didi Ki Rasoi" will enhance the confidence, skill and leadership abilities of the SHG members.
The Deputy Commissioner further reiterated that the district administration is committed to holistic and inclusive development, and similar initiatives will be promoted across Reasi to ensure community participation in local development.
To mark the occasion, Silver Oak and Sukh Chain trees were planted at the canteen site. The green initiative symbolizes harmony, prosperity, and environmental consciousness, aligning with the administration's focus on sustainable development and community well-being.
The launch of "Didi Ki Rasoi" reflects the core values of the DAY-NULM scheme, offering marginalized women opportunities for skill enhancement, entrepreneurship, and financial independence. The initiative stands as a model of empowerment and progress, reinforcing the vision of a self-reliant and healthy Reasi district.
