Early Times Report
KATHUA, July 30: Asmita Yogasana Championship 2025-2026 concluded today at Nav Adarsh Higher Secondary School, Kathua, with vibrant participation from women across various age groups who showcased their skill, strength, and discipline through different Yogasanas. The championship was held under the Khelo India initiative and was organised in a planned and grand manner, bringing pride to district Kathua, which was chosen by the Sports Authority of India (SAI) for this prestigious event. The success of the programme is largely attributed to the tireless efforts of Yoga Guru Sunita Verma, who not only supervised the entire event but also motivated large-scale participation through her continuous community engagement and daily yoga sessions held at her residence for individuals of all age groups.
While addressing the gathering, Sunita Verma underlined the importance of yoga in women's lives, stating that "Yoga is vital for physical and mental well-being of women, regardless of age. Those who regularly practice yoga witness a visible positive transformation in their health and confidence." She also emphasized that yoga is not bound by any religion or barrier and encouraged all women to embrace it freely. She further highlighted how the Asmita Yogasana programme has become a source of livelihood for many women, as those who trained in yoga are now teaching it to elderly women and others in their community, earning up to ?10,000 per month-a significant step in women empowerment.
The event was graced by Dr. Rachna Raj, Government Women College Kathua as the Chief Guest; Meenakshi Jamwal, Principal DAV School; Lalita Katal, Chairperson Nav Adarsh HSS Kathua; and noted social activist Smt. Kusum Salaria as Special Guests and Guest of Honour respectively.
