Early Times Report

JAMMU, July 30: The Jammu and Kashmir Police have arrested the Gandhi Nagar road rage accident accused Manan Anand after a 72 hours long chase by six specially constituted teams for the purpose.
Meanwhile, the 68-year-old individual, who suffered severe head injuries due to his reckless driving, has been shifted to Fortis Hospital in Punjab after his condition reportedly worsened.
“Accused Thar driver Mannan Anand son of Rajinder Anand of House number 62, Sec 4, Nanak Nagar, Jammu, who was absconding in case FIR No 163/2025 under sections 281, 125(a), and 109 BNS has been arrested by Police Station Gandhi Nagar,” the Jammu and Kashmir Police said in a statement.
It may be recalled that the incident took place on July 27 around 1:30 PM, near Allora Textiles, Green Belt Park, in the Gandhi Nagar area. A Mahindra Thar SUV (JK02DP-9594), allegedly being driven in a rash and negligent manner, collided head-on with a scooty (JK02BS-6435) that was coming from the opposite direction.
Following the collision, passers-by rushed the injured scooty rider to Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, while the Thar driver fled the scene. The condition of the injured victim, who remains unconscious, is reported to be critical, and he has now been referred to Chandigarh for advanced treatment.
Based on the initial facts and eyewitness accounts, FIR No. 163/2025 was registered at Police Station Gandhi Nagar un
Current Status

er Sections 281 and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
However, as the investigation progressed, CCTV footage and the statement of an eyewitness revealed a shocking detail: after the initial collision, the driver of the Thar reportedly reversed the vehicle and deliberately hit the victim again, causing grievous injuries.
In light of this revelation and based on corroborative material evidence collected from the scene, police have invoked Section 109 of the BNS, which pertains to acts involving intention and knowledge likely to cause harm or endanger life.
Acting swiftly under the guidance of SDPO South and SP South, the investigation team led by SHO PS Gandhi Nagar ensured the following developments: CCTV footage of the incident was secured, eyewitness testimony was recorded and verified, the Thar vehicle has been seized for mechanical examination, the owner of the vehicle was detained for questioning and a manhunt was launched to trace the absconding driver. Their efforts culminated in the arrest of the accused, Mannan Anand, earlier today.
Jammu Police have reaffirmed its zero-tolerance approach towards reckless driving and acts endangering human life. Officials confirmed that forensic, procedural, and legal aspects of the case are being thoroughly pursued to ensure justice.
The Police have urged citizens to come forward with any additional information, videos, or photographs that may assist in the investigation.
