Maligaon, July 30: As a custodian of heritage and progress in the NE region of the country, Northeast Frontier Railway (NFR) continues to blend tradition with innovation across its vast network. In a recent initiative reflecting such spirit, the Siliguri Diesel Loco Shed, functioning under the jurisdiction of NFR, has paid a poignant tribute to one of India’s most iconic freedom fighters, Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose and his legendary Azad Hind Fauj that played a pivotal role in India’s movement for Independence.
Towards such an approach, the shed has repainted and rechristened its WDP-4B diesel locomotive no. 40023, with a powerful new visual identity dedicated to the Azad Hind Fauj (Indian National Army). The locomotive, a 4,500 hp engine featuring advanced IGBT technology, now sports a striking livery with tricolour whiskers and flag-inspired motifs, turning it into a moving emblem of national pride. This transformation serves not only as a mark of respect but also as a rolling reminder of the sacrifice and determination that defined India’s path to independence.
Through this evocative initiative, NFR reasserts its commitment towards celebrating the nation’s rich historical legacy by embedding it into the everyday life of Indian Railways. Locomotive 40023, in its bold new avatar, now travels as more than just a mechanical powerhouse, as it stands as a living tribute to the unwavering courage of Netaji and his Azad Hind Fauj, inspiring countless onlookers across its route. |
