Agriculture Department seizes consignment of subsidized Urea fertilizer | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Aug 13: The Law Enforcement Wing of the Department of Agriculture, Jammu under the supervision of Director Law Enforcement Mr. Balbir Singh along with Assistant Director Law Enforcement Mr. Kuldeep Singh , Law Enforcement Inspector Kathua Mr. Anil Gupta , Law Enforcement Inspector Samba Mr. Yograj Sharma and other members of Enforcement Wing has successfully foiled an attempt to illegally divert subsidized urea having quantity of 60 bags meant for local farmers to a neighbouring state of Punjab, in a swift operation carried out in Kathua District. On 10th August 2025, Kathua Police at Nagri Check Post intercepted a vehicle Reg. No. JK21K6591 carrying subsidized urea. Preliminary investigation revealed the consignment had been purchased from a source in Samba and was being smuggled into Punjab, in clear violation of Fertilizer Control Order (FCO), 1985. The vehicle was seized on the spot. On 11th August 2025, Kathua Police informed the Agriculture Department's Enforcement Authorities. The enforcement team immediately reached the site, took custody of the fertilizer, and launched an enquiry. The investigation confirmed that the urea had been sold by M/s Vishali Chib, resident of Dora, Samba. All legal formalities, including seizure notice and panchnama, were completed, and the matter was formally reported to the District Collector, Samba as required under FCO 1985 for further action. The Department emphasized that such illegal diversions deprive J&K farmers of their rightful entitlements, disrupt the supply chain, and undermine government subsidies intended to support agricultural productivity. Offenders will face strict penalties under the FCO 1985 and the Essential Commodities Act, 1955. The Law Enforcement Wing stated that "This department will show zero tolerance towards any attempt to illegally divert government-subsidized fertilizer. Every violator will be dealt with firmly under the law to protect the interests of our farmers." Farmers and citizens are urged to promptly report any suspicious movement or sale of subsidized fertilizers to ensure that every grain of fertilizer reaches its rightful user. |
