After BSF foils infiltration bid, Army thwarts BAT attack | Pak's Post Op Sindoor Provocations | | SanDeep Bhat/Atul Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Aug 13: In what appears to be a series of post-Operation Sindoor provocations by Pakistan, the Indian security forces have successfully foiled two back-to-back infiltration attempts—one along the International Border (IB) in Jammu and the other on the Line of Control (LoC) in north Kashmir’s Uri sector. Just two days after the Border Security Force (BSF) neutralised a Pakistani intruder in the Samba sector, the Indian Army repelled a Border Action Team (BAT) attack near the Tikka Post in Uri during the intervening night of August 12 and 13. In the fierce encounter that ensued, Havildar Ankit Kumar of the Indian Army was martyred while valiantly defending the post from the infiltration attempt. The BAT team, reportedly comprising Pakistani soldiers and terrorists, came under heavy retaliatory fire from Indian troops. However, due to adverse weather conditions, the attackers managed to retreat across the LoC. The Srinagar-based Chinar Corps paid tribute to the fallen soldier in a post on X (formerly Twitter), ““Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life while undertaking operational duty along the Line of Control in Uri, Baramulla. Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolences, and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.” In another tragic incident earlier on Tuesday, Sepoy Banoth Anil Kumar also laid down his life during operational duty in Baramulla, Jammu and Kashmir. The Indian Army, in a separate tribute, posted, “ “Chief of Army Staff General Upendra Dwivedi and all ranks salute his supreme sacrifice and extend their deepest condolences to his family. The Army stands in “Chinar Corps honours the supreme sacrifice of Braveheart Havildar Ankit Kumar, who laid down his life while undertaking operational duty along the Line of Control in Uri, Baramulla.” olidarity with the bereaved family during this difficult time.” Chinar Corps also expressed grief at the loss, stating, “Chinar Warriors salute his immense valour and sacrifice, express deepest condolences, and stand in solidarity with the bereaved family.” Earlier, on August 11, a Pakistani intruder was gunned down by BSF troops in the Hiranagar sector of Kathua district, after he attempted to cross into Indian territory under the cover of darkness. According to official reports, BSF personnel deployed between the Chandwan and Kothey border outposts observed suspicious movement late in the evening. The intruder was challenged and warned several times, but he continued to advance aggressively toward the border fence. Sensing a threat, the troops opened fire, injuring the infiltrator. He was immediately taken into custody and shifted to a nearby hospital. Later, he was referred to AIIMS, Vijaypur, for specialised treatment but succumbed to his injuries. Confirming the incident, the Jammu Frontier of the BSF said in an official statement: “On 11 Aug 2025 evening, BSF troops observed suspicious movement wherein a Pak national was seen crossing the IB and aggressively approaching the border fence in district Kathua, Jammu. He was warned by alert troops but paid no heed. BSF troops, sensing a threat, fired on him. He was taken into BSF custody and evacuated to the nearest hospital. Later, he succumbed to his injuries during treatment. A protest is being lodged with the counterpart.” These incidents highlight heightened Pakistani hostilities along the border in the aftermath of Operation Sindoor, underscoring the alertness and preparedness of Indian security forces in thwarting such threats and safeguarding national security. |
