Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 2: Police Station CICE Jammu has filed a challan in a case involving the creation of fake social media accounts impersonating AIIMS Jammu on Instagram and Facebook. The case was initiated on the basis of a written complaint lodged by Dr. (Prof.) Shakti Kumar Gupta, Executive Director & CEO, AIIMS Vijaypur, Jammu. He alleged that unknown individuals had created fake profiles in the name of AIIMS Jammu on social media platforms. These accounts were suspected to be used for spreading false information and damaging the institution’s reputation.
Acting on the complaint, FIR No. 07/2025 was registered on March 25, 2025, at PS CICE Jammu against the accused, Amit Sharma, son of Ghani Shyam Sharma, resident of Parladhpur, Jammu, under Section 66-D of the IT Act, 2008 (amended). Investigation was entrusted to the Investigating Officer of PS CICE Jammu.
The investigation, conducted with the aid of advanced technical tools, involved collecting records from telecom service providers and social media platforms, analyzing IP addresses/IPDRs, and questioning the accused with the help of modern electronic gadgets. The IO also utilized the services of e-Sakshay to gather electronic evidence.
Evidence confirmed that the accused had created fake Instagram and Facebook pages in the name of AIIMS Jammu, uploaded official documents such as e-bids, and misled the public into believing the accounts were genuine. The impersonated accounts have since been disabled.
On September 2, 2025, the challan in the case was presented before the Hon’ble Court of Special Railway Magistrate, Jammu. The accused appeared before the court and has been charged under Section 66-D of the IT Act, 2008 (amended).
The public has widely appreciated the swift and professional action of CICE Jammu, which successfully traced and apprehended the culprit. The investigation was led by DySP Jagdeep Singh under the close supervision of SHO PS CICE Jammu, DySP Sachit Mahajan, and the overall guidance of Mohd Yaseen Kichloo, IPS, SSP CICE J&K.
