Jammu, Sept 5: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Rohiin Chandan today praised the Narendra Modi-led government for delivering a powerful Diwali gift to India’s common man—a sweeping tax reset that slashes costs on essentials like roti, kapda, aur makaan (food, clothing, and housing). Chandan said, “From the roti on your plate to the kapda in your wardrobe and the makaan you dream of buying, the government’s historic tax reforms have trimmed expenses across the board. This is real relief for millions, especially the growing middle class, which is the backbone of Bharat’s economic future.” Highlighting the expanding middle class—which now numbers nearly 600 million and forms 41% of India’s population—Chandan noted that urban households could save as much as 7-8% in their monthly budgets, while rural families stand to gain 5-6%. “This tax reset enhances ease of living and buying power right when families need it most,” he said. India’s middle class is rapidly rising not just in numbers but also in spending power, fueling sectors like housing, retail, and services. Economist reports forecast consumer spending to nearly triple by 2030, fueled mainly by middle-income families. He added, “PM Modi’s government is proving time and again that it cares deeply about the common man, living up to promises made to improve economic conditions for all.” Besides easing costs, the reforms aim to boost small traders and entrepreneurs by simplifying tax structures and reducing compliance burdens. “This will accelerate enterprise growth and job creation, empowering youth and women across India’s towns and villages,” Chandan observed. As India steps confidently towards greater self-reliance and prosperity, these tax reforms reinforce the Modi government’s commitment to inclusive growth. He also slammed the Congress for finding faults with the measures taken by the GST Council, saying it exposes the opposition party's double standards as Rahul Gandhi opposes decisions supported by finance ministers of state governments run by his party. All decisions of the GST Council, he asserted, were taken by consensus. Chandan said the Congress-led UPA government could not even implement the GST because states did not trust it. On the contrary, the Congress at that time robbed poor people and traders through Value Added Tax (VAT) and left ample scope for tax evasion, he claimed. On the other hand, the Modi government instead realized the concept of 'one nation, one tax' by rolling out the GST in 2017, he said. Chandan concluded, “This Diwali, the gift of affordable roti, kapda, aur makaan lights the way for millions towards a brighter, financially secure future. The Modi government continues to stand shoulder to shoulder with India’s hardworking citizens, building an Atmanirbhar Bharat.” |
