Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation extends helping hand to flash flood victims in Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 5: The Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation, under the leadership of M.K. Ajatshatru Singh, Founding Chairman, and Kunwarani Dr. Ritu Singh, Founding Co-Chair, in close coordination with the District Administration Jammu, organized a heartfelt relief donation drive to support the victims of the recent devastating flash floods in Jammu. The drive was kickstarted today at Delhi Public School Jammu.
The relief consignment comprised a wide range of essential materials to address both immediate and long-term needs of the affected families. The donations included:
100 school bags, 480 notebooks, 200 packs each of pencils, erasers, and sharpeners
84 track suits, 112 sweaters, 57 twinning sets, 7 track lowers, 163 T-shirts, 81 shirts, 52 half-pants, 52 skirts, 36 kameez, 12 jackets, and 9 pants
49 additional bags, 100 mattresses, 100 pillows, 100 pillow covers, and 100 bed sheets
500 units of toothpaste, 500 toothbrushes, 300 units of Dettol soap, and 20 cases of bottled water
This carefully curated relief material was aimed at providing warmth, hygiene, comfort, and educational support to families and children displaced or affected by the floods.
Speaking on the occasion, Kunwarani Dr. Ritu Singh, Founding Co-Chair of the Foundation and Pro Vice Chairperson, DPS Jammu, said:
"The Foundation has always been committed to carrying forward the vision of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, who stood for justice, compassion, and service to humanity. In these testing times, true to the motto of Service Before Self, it is our duty to come together and extend whatever support we can to those who are suffering."
Kunwarani Dr. Ritu Singh further announced that DPS Nagbani and DPS Katra will also be organizing similar relief donation drives in Akhnoor and Reasi in the coming days, ensuring that help reaches a wider section of affected communities. Additionally, on the eve of Teachers' Day, all teachers of the three DPS institutions pledged one day's salary to continue the relief work in the coming days - a testament to their spirit of community and solidarity with the victims.
Receiving the relief, Ansuya Jamwal (JKAS), Additional District Magistrate, expressed gratitude:
"At a time when so many lives and livelihoods have been shaken, this gesture of solidarity reminds us that compassion and collective action are our greatest strengths. Such initiatives restore hope and give courage to families in distress."
S.S. Sodhi, Director, DPS Jammu, added:
"The DPS family has always believed in nurturing values of care, responsibility, and resilience. This initiative is a small step in standing shoulder to shoulder with our people in Jammu, who have shown immense courage during this calamity."
Earlier, Ruchi Chabra, Principal DPS Jammu, welcomed the dignitaries and reaffirmed the school family's commitment to community service and humanitarian causes.
The occasion also witnessed the presence of principals and administrators of DPS institutions, including Rajkumar (Principal, DPS Nagbani), Manikarnika (Principal, DPS Katra), Simmi (Administrator, DPS Katra), Meenu Gupta (Vice Principal, DPS Jammu), Ravi Kotroo (Headmaster/Exam I.C.), Umesh (Chief Coordinator/ Deputy HM), Rimpi Sharma (Deputy HM), Anu Bali (Coordinator/Supervisor), Saniya (Coordinator), Harshita (School Administrator), Karandeep Singh (Senior Manager Operations), R.C. Gupta (AO/CAO), and M.L. Mehra (Transport Administrator).
The ceremony concluded with a message of resilience, shared responsibility, and unity, underlining the strength of collaboration between the Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation and the District Administration Jammu. In times of calamity, such partnerships highlight that humanity shines brightest when communities extend a helping hand.
