Karra’s delayed visit to flood hit Jammu areas ‘act of indifference’
9/7/2025 10:46:02 PM
Early Times Report

Jammu, Sept 7: After 16 agonizing days of devastation caused by unprecedented floods in Jammu, the long-awaited visit of Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) President Mr. Tariq Hameed Karra has left the people more disillusioned than reassured.
The catastrophic floods displaced thousands of families, destroyed homes, and inflicted irreparable losses on lives and property. In the midst of this humanitarian tragedy, the absence of Congress’s top leadership was felt deeply on the ground. Shockwaves of disappointment spread as Mr. Karra finally arrived—more than two weeks late—choosing to lecture on the situation instead of being present when victims most needed support.
For families who braved the disaster alone, the PCC President’s delayed presence was seen as an act of indifference. “We expected leadership, compassion, and action. What we got instead were hollow speeches,” a local resident remarked with visible anguish.
Observers believe this episode has exposed a glaring disconnect between Congress leadership and ground realities in Jammu. At a time when immediate empathy, swift relief operations, and visible solidarity were essential, silence and absence prevailed.
The big question now looms: Why did it take more than two weeks for the PCC President to set foot in Jammu? Why were no concrete relief steps initiated by the Congress leadership in the crucial hours following the disaster?
The people of Jammu, who have shown remarkable resilience in the face of tragedy, are demanding accountability. Empty words and delayed gestures cannot replace the loss they have endured. What they seek now is real leadership—rooted in compassion, urgency, and action.
The floods may have receded, but the memory of abandonment will not fade easily. For the Congress, the question remains whether it can rebuild the trust of the very people who expected its leaders to stand shoulder-to-shoulder with them in their darkest hour.
