Ramnagar, Sept. 11, 2025: Government Degree College Ramnagar organised an informative seminar on “Water Borne Diseases: Causes and Prevention” aimed at raising awareness among students about public-health risks linked to unsafe water and poor sanitation. The programme began with a warm welcome address by Prof. Ritika Mahajan (HOD, Chemistry), who highlighted the importance of scientific awareness and everyday hygiene practices in preventing water-borne illnesses. Prof. Mahajan underlined the role of educational institutions in spreading accurate health information and motivating students to adopt safe habits. The keynote lecture was delivered by Dr. Puyesh Kant Sharma (HOD, Political Science). Drawing on interdisciplinary perspectives, Dr. Sharma explained the common causes of water-borne diseases including microbial contamination, inadequate sanitation, and unsafe storage practices and presented practical prevention strategies. He emphasised simple, cost-effective measures such as water treatment (boiling, chlorination), safe storage, regular handwashing, proper waste disposal, and community-level sanitation initiatives. Dr. Sharma also discussed the importance of public policy, community engagement and school-based health education in reducing disease burden. In his remarks, Prof. (Dr.) Bhavnaish Chand Anthal (Principal, GDC Ramnagar) applauded the organisers and resource person for addressing a critical public health issue. He urged students to become ambassadors of hygiene in their families and neighbourhoods, stating, “Small, consistent actions — clean water, hand hygiene and safe sanitation — can prevent suffering and save lives.” The seminar concluded with a vote of thanks by Prof. Sanjay Malhotra (HOD, Commerce), who expressed gratitude to the Principal, the resource person, faculty coordinators and all students for their active participation. Prof. Manmohan Singh, Prof. Anice Ahmed, Prof. Tanmeet Kour, Prof. Pankaj Dabgotra and Prof. Romesh Kumar graced the event with their presence. The college reiterated its commitment to organising more awareness activities that promote health, safety and community well-being.
