Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 11: A historic moment was witnessed today with the completion of the first phase of the reconstruction of the revered Yaadgar Gurdwara Sahib Shri Mahant Bachittar Singh Ji in Poonch, which had suffered extensive damage during Operation Sindoor. The restoration has been undertaken under Project Garima, envisioned and guided by Kunwarani Dr. Ritu Singh, Maharaja Kumar Ajat Shatru Singh, Rajkumar Ranvijay Singh, and Rajkumari Adishree Singh of the Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation, along with prominent citizens of Jammu, with the support of Foundation members. To commemorate this milestone of faith, resilience, and unity, a special function was held on September 10, 2025, at Gurdwara Digiana Ashram, Jammu, under the banner of Project Garima. The event marked the successful completion of the first phase of reconstruction of this historic and sacred site, which continues to hold immense spiritual and cultural significance for the community. The solemn gathering of over 250 participants included community elders, Sikh leaders, Foundation members, social activists, and citizens who came together to honour the resilience of Poonch and reaffirm the importance of preserving sacred heritage. The program commenced with a soulful Ardaas by Dera Mukhi Mahant Manjeet Singh, invoking blessings for peace, unity, and protection for the people of Poonch, while remembering those who endured suffering during Operation Sindoor. Addressing the congregation, Kunwarani Dr. Ritu Singh stated: This mission is not only about rebuilding a Gurdwara, but about restoring faith, dignity, and the cultural legacy of our people. Project Garima is a tribute to resilience and unity, reminding us that sacred spaces are symbols of strength and hope. We are humbled to stand with the community of Poonch and to reaffirm our shared values of compassion and service. Narinder Singh, President, District Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee, Poonch, expressed profound gratitude to the Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation for its steadfast commitment, describing the project as a restoration of both faith and identity. Words of appreciation were also conveyed by Prithpal Singh (President, Krishna Ghatti Gurdwara) and Ajeet Singh (Vice President), who acknowledged the deep impact of this restoration. A special note of thanks was extended to Vikas Kundal, IAS former Deputy Commissioner of Poonch, whose administrative support was instrumental in navigating logistical and security challenges and ensuring the smooth execution of the project. The initiative was further strengthened by the active participation of 160 members of the Maharaja Hari Singh Foundation from Jammu, Katra, and Nagbani, along with generous supporters and prominent citizens of Jammu, including Jyotika Jhalani, Kartike Jhalani, CA. Ayush Sawhney, Ashish Gupta, and Samar Dev Bansal. Equally noteworthy was the heartfelt contribution of DPS Jammu alumni, including Archit Puri, Vikrant Gupta, Deepak Gupta, Shiromani Gupta, Arush Pathania, and many more, whose donations and support added strength to this noble cause. All contributions were managed with transparency and accountability, and donors and partners were gratefully acknowledged. As part of the Foundation's thoughtful planning for community safety, the reconstructed Gurdwara now incorporates a protective bunker within its premises. This addition will serve as a refuge for the Sangat and local residents during emergencies, reflecting foresight and a deep concern for human life alongside cultural preservation. The successful completion of the first phase of Project Garima stands as a landmark achievement symbolizing courage, unity, and service. Inspired by the enduring values of Maharaja Hari Singh Ji, the Foundation reaffirms its commitment to preserving heritage, strengthening communities, and ensuring that sacred spaces continue to serve as beacons of faith and resilience for generations to come. With the same spirit of dedication and service, Project Garima will now advance into its subsequent phases. |
