SKK's initiative for rnvironmental stewardship among Divyang

Early Times Report
JAMMU, Sept 16: The J&K Samaj Kalyan Kendra (SKK) has launched an initiative to encourage environmental stewardship among its Divyang (hearing handicapped) students. Thirty students have been selected who planted a sapling in a pot with their name on it. Each one of them will own a plant, nurture it by way of watering and providing manure etc and keep seeing its growth. Three such best grown plants will be selected and the concerned students will be given environmental awards after a year.
The scheme will promote environmental stewardship among students by inculcating a habit of caring for plants besides learning the importance of nurturing and protecting living things, which can foster in them a deeper respect for nature and the environment. By participating in this activity of plantation, they will have an appreciation for how their actions can positively impact the environment. The scheme is designed to enhance hand-on learning of Divyang students who will witness the plant life cycle, photosynthesis, and gradual growth. Seeing a plant they nurture, growing and flourishing will build among them students a confidence, sense of accomplishment and self-efficacy and understand as to how their efforts produce real, tangible results.
The management of the SKK has been motivated to launch this environmental initiative by following the call of the PM Narinder Modi for Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam, launched by the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board in this monsoon. The Central Govt Pensioners' Welfare Association Jammu which has adopted SKK & the School, has joined in the initiative of SMVDS Board and promoted distribution of plants produced in Katra nursery, among pensioners and other agencies. These plants have been procured from Vaishnavi Vatika" at Vaishnavi Dham, Rail Head Complex, Jammu and given to the Divyang who have shown a lot of excitement and interest.
