Early Times Report JAMMU, Sept 18: The Department of Hindi & Other Indian Languages and the Hindi Cell of the Central University of Jammu jointly inaugurated the Hindi Fortnight celebrations. The inaugural ceremony was organized under the guidance and inspiration of the Hon'ble Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Sanjeev Jain. The Chief Guest on the occasion was Prof. Chandrakant Singh, Professor, Department of Hindi, Central University of Himachal Pradesh. The Special Guests included Prof. Yashwant Singh, Registrar, Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dean Students' Welfare, Prof. Bharat Bhushan, Head, Department of Hindi, and Dr. Priyanjan, Assistant Director, Hindi Cell. The programme commenced with the ceremonial lighting of the lamp by the dignitaries, followed by Saraswati Vandana presented by the research scholars of the Department of Hindi. All the distinguished guests on the dais were felicitated. Welcoming the guests, Prof. Bharat Bhushan highlighted the objectives behind organizing the Hindi Fortnight. In his address, Registrar Prof. Yashwant Singh said that Hindi is not just a language but a symbol of our culture and the soul of Mother India. Hindi has united the entire nation. He emphasized that the Central University of Jammu is at the forefront in promoting Hindi and appealed to students to contribute actively to its growth and dissemination. Prof. Ritu Bakshi, Dean Students' Welfare, stated that Hindi is a very simple and accessible language, which has crossed the boundaries of India and earned appreciation abroad. With scientific and technological development, India is witnessing transformation, and Hindi has adapted itself to these changes, becoming the language of the digital era. Chief Guest Prof. Chandrakant Singh observed that Hindi is not a single language but a group of languages that encompass various dialects. He described Hindi as a reflection of folk culture and elaborated on its fully developed form with several examples. He compared Hindi to a lotus flower, with all other Indian languages as its petals, and expressed confidence that the future of Hindi on the world stage is bright. He stressed the need to nurture "Hindi soldiers" for its further growth and urged the youth to preserve India's regional languages and cultures to maintain the integrity of Indian identity. On this occasion, the judges of the poetry recitation and speech competitions for students - Prof. Paramvir Singh, Dr. Aman Bhardwaj, and Dr. Amita Gupta - were felicitated. The inaugural session was conducted by Dr. Vandana Sharma, Assistant Professor, Department of Hindi, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Dr. Priyanjan, Assistant Director, Hindi Cell.
