Akhnoor, Sept 26: Government Degree College (GDC), Akhnoor, in collaboration with the J&K Science, Technology & Innovation Council, Department of Science & Technology (DST) Jammu & Kashmir UT, successfully organized a One-Day Workshop on the topic “Science, Technology and Innovations with Emphasis on Artificial Intelligence and its Impact on Future Generations.” The workshop aimed to foster a culture of innovation, critical thinking, scientific inquiry and awareness of cutting –edge technologies among the youth. Prof. (Dr.) Romilla Malla Bhat , Principal GDC Akhnoor in her welcome address, highlighted the significance of integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Higher Education and Research, and emphasized the importance of nurturing scientific temperament among students. In her address, she thanked the Department of Higher Education Ms. Sakina Ittoo (Hon’ble Minister for Education), Sh. Shantmanu (IAS, Finance Commissioner), and Prof. Dr.Sheikh Ajaz Bashir (Director Colleges) for their patronage. She also expressed gratitude to the Department of Science and Technology (DST) for collaborating and offering scholarships to meritorious students of GDC Akhnoor. She highlighted that such workshops serve as valuable learning platforms and help bridge the gap between generations. Prof. Parveen Lehana, Department of Electronics, University of Jammu, delivered the keynote address on AI and Machine Learning of Brain and explained about the evolution and societal impact of AI, urging students to engage in interdisciplinary research and stay ahead in a rapidly changing technological landscape. He further deliberated on topics such as brain mass versus body mass, illusion processing by brain, neuron and its model, brain waves, learning rules, application domains and problems with special emphasis on preparing younger generations to thrive in a technology-driven world. The distinguished guests present on the occasion were Ms. Shruti Khanna, Assistant Director, DST and Ms. Ishita Choudhary, Accounts Officer, DST. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation of students and staff members from various colleges; GDC Akhnoor, GDC Khour, GDC Sunderbani, GDC Jourian and staff members of the respective colleges. Students showcased working models based on Artificial Intelligence and gave insightful presentations on AI-related themes, exploring the technology’s potential to address real-world problems in sectors such as healthcare, agriculture, education, and governance. The Model Presentation and Symposium sessions of the students from various colleges were adjudged by honorable jury members on the occasion Dr. Kulwinder Kour, Principal, GDC Paloura; Dr. Meenu Abrol, Principal, GDC Ramgarh and additional charge GDC Samba, Dr. Vandana Gupta, Principal, GDC Sunderbani and additional charge GDC Pouni. Dr. Anuradha Pandoh, Principal GDC Jourian also graced the occasion. The Students who bagged first, second and third prize in Model Presentation Category (AI-Based Models) were Mr. Saksham Sharma (Sem-3rd), Ms Peehul Choudhary (sem-3rd) and Mr. Vansh Takiaya & Kartikeyan Jamwal (sem-5th) of GDC Akhnoor respectively. |
