GDC Khour conducts Mega Plantation Drive

Khour, Sept 29: As a part of series of activities conducted in celebration of ‘Sewa Parv’, NSS and NCC wing of Government Degree College Khour, in collaboration with the Social Forestry Department, organized a mega plantation drive within the college campus under the patronage of Prof. Dr. T.K. Sharma.
The drive was conducted to bring awareness about the green cover, to promote environmental sustainability and to foster a spirit of community service among students. Such events also create unity and a sense of belongingness among participants.
The event started at 11:00 am, with the plantation of 55 saplings of various species of medicinal and citrus fruit plants including Arjuna, Baheda, Gulmohar, Guava, Amla etc. Around 60 students enthusiastically participated in the event, highlighting the growing awareness and commitment among youth toward ecological responsibility.
The plantation drive emphasized the important role of trees in maintaining ecological balance, reducing pollution, and mitigating the effects of climate change. It also served to encourage students to take continuous steps toward creating a greener and more sustainable campus. Addressing the gathering, Prof. Dr. T. K. Sharma, Principal of the College spoke about the importance of plantation drive and conservation of trees. He said that trees are synonymous to life. When we plant trees, we plant the seeds of hope. He further added that planting a tree and safe guarding it, is our moral responsibility by which we can give a better green environment to our coming generations. After the plantation drive, the NSS and NCC volunteers of the college were engaged in a cleanliness cum beautification drive, infusing the surroundings with vibrant energy and color. Their task included Painting Tree Stumps in white hues and adorning stones with a spectrum of different colors thereby uplifting the ambiance of the college.
The whole event was organized by Prof. Himanshu Khajuria, NSS PO and Lt. Shivani Sharma (ANO, Senior Division). Prof. Khalid Sajad Bohra, Prof. Sunil Kumar, Prof. Sapna Narania and Samita Sharma, Librarian were also present in the event. The principal of the college appreciated the efforts and dedication of NSS Volunteers and NCC Cadets.
