Jammu, Sept 30: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), J&K, Divisional Office Jammu, in line with the directions of Ministry of Education, Govt of India, under the mentorship of Sh. Shantmanu (IAS), Financial Commissioner and Additional Chief Secretary, Director SCERT Jammu and Kashmir along with the able guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Sindhu Kapoor, Joint Director, SCERT Jammu Division, successfully concluded its fortnight-long celebrations of “Sewa Parv”, observed from September 17 to September 30, 2025, as part of the nationwide initiative to promote social responsibility, community participation, and the spirit of service among youth. The celebrations featured a diverse range of activities with active participation of SCERT faculty, school teachers, students , and the community. The series began on 19th September with Health and Wellness (Yoga and Fitness Classes) led by Dr. Sanjeevani , Assistant Professor, followed by a Samman Samaroh organised to honour the dedicated sanitation workers of our locality on 20th September, coordinated by Ms. Monica Sharma. On 24th September, Dr. Seema Zakir led a Plantation Drive “Ek Ped Maa ke Naam”, encouraging green habits and environmental responsibility. On 25th September, two programmes were held: a Wellness Lecture on nutrition and healthy living delivered by Dietician Gurmeet Gujral, coordinated by Ms. Manu Vasudeva, and Swasth Nari, Sashakt Parivar led by Ms. Neeraj Jamwal, in which a team of SCERT faculty visited Govt. Primary School, Toph Sher Khanian to sensitise mothers of young children about government schemes promoting women’s health and empowerment. On 26th September, a team from SCERT visited the Blind School, where an interactive session, and sharing of learning resources brought joy to the children and highlighted the importance of inclusive education. Similarly, on 27th September, the team visited an Old Age Home to spread warmth, care, and solidarity by sharing time and meaningful conversations with the residents, underscored the values of respect and compassion for vulnerable sections of society. The momentum continued on 29th September with a “Say No to Drugs/Tobacco” Campaign and a Poster Making Competition at GHSS Paloura, coordinated by Ms. Rukhsana Gulbadan, where students showcased their creativity to spread awareness on substance abuse. On 30th September, Community Service through Adult Literacy Classes was facilitated by Dr. Sandeep Singh, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of lifelong learning. The day concluded with a thought-provoking session on Gandhian Values and Teacher Education by Mr. Paawan Vivek, reminding participants of Mahatma Gandhi’s timeless ideals of truth, non-violence, and service. In her message on the culmination of the programme, Joint Director SCERT, emphasized that Sewa Parv is more than a celebration; it is a transformative initiative to nurture empathy, compassion, and service-oriented citizenship among youth.”The ‘SCERT on Wheels’ initiative successfully carried these values into the community, symbolising the integration of Gandhian thought, ethical responsibility, and social service into education and everyday life. The fortnight-long initiative concluded with renewed commitment from SCERT J&K to continue fostering service-oriented education that bridges classrooms with communities.
