SCERT Jammu organises three day Capacity Building Programme

Jammu, Oct15: SCERT J&K Divisional Office Jammu successfully hosted a three day Capacity Building Programme on Information Retrieval : changing trends in the age of ICT from 13 Oct. to 15 Oct.2025 promoting knowledge sharing,innovation and capacity building among library professionals from Jammu Division . The programme was organised by Department of Library and Documentation, Academic Unit I. The event brought together experts from the University of Jammu, Government Degree Colleges, SCERT Jammu and Samagra Shiksha to discuss emerging trends and best practices in library and information management.
This CBP aimed to enhance understanding of the changing nature of information retrieval in the digital and ICT-driven environment and to familiarize librarians with modern tools, technologies and digital platforms for efficient access, organization, and dissemination of information.
The programme was inaugurated by Dr. Anuradha Seth, Chief Librarian, Government Degree College for Women, Gandhinagar, Jammu. She wholeheartedly applauded this initiative, which promises to enrich participants' expertise and instill confidence in their ability to innovate and respond to evolving trends. Congratulating the organizers, resource persons, and participants, Prof. (Dr.) Sindhu Kapoor, Joint Director SCERT J&K, Divisional Office Jammu emphasised upon fostering a culture of excellence in librarianship, staying ahead of emerging trends and delivering efficient, effective, and ethical information services.
Various aspects of library development, information literacy and the integration of technology into educational resources were discussed in the programme.The sessions were deliberated by eminent professionals includingDr. Samita Wadhera, Librarian, Department of Botany, University of Jammu, Dr. Pramod Kumar, Department of Library and Information Science, University of Jammu, Dr. Arun Gupta, Librarian, GDC Chenani, Udhampur, Dr. Sandeep Sharma, GGHSS Mandi, Poonch,Ms. Lakshmi Puri, Teacher Educator, Samagra Shiksha, Jammu,Ms. Manu Vasudeva, Academic Officer, Mr. Bikram Singh, Academic Officer, Dr. Bhuvi, Academic Officer and Ms. Ruchi Mohan, Librarian from SCERT, Jammu. They emphasized the need for continuous professional development and stronger collaboration among educational institutions across the region.
A remarkable highlight of the programme was the release of the book titled “School Library Governance: Rules and Policies for Traditional and Automated Libraries,” authored by Dr. Sandeep Sharma, Librarian, GGHSS Mandi Poonch. The book was formally unveiled by the worthy Joint Director, SCERT Jammu Division Prof. (Dr.) Sindhu Kapoor, who appreciated the author’s scholarly contribution to the field of library science. Dr. Sandeep Sharma also delivered an engaging session on the core concepts, objectives, and vision of his book, offering profound insights into modern library governance, policy formulation, and automation practices.
The programme was well coordinated by Dr Bhuvi. She was assisted by Ms Ruchi Mohan as Associate Coordinator. Team members namely Bikram Singh, Pratibha Jamwal, Shamim Nazki, Ruksana Gulbadan, Arsh Kour, Rakesh Chobber and Manisha Chun managed the whole programme under the supervision of Sh. Sanjeev Suri, Head, Academic Unit-I and Mtr. Parveen Akhter, Head, Library and Documentation Wing.
